LUMINARIA 2020

Updated: Apr 5

A collaborative project between Aria Alba, Harlekin Studio Opera, and The Three Bridges Festival. Singers were invited to submit audio recordings of Verdi's 'Va Pensiero' also known as 'Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves' and video recordings of some set movements. The participants, community singers of all abilities, learned about musical line, phrasing, articulation and singing in Italian, and gained a preliminary understanding of Laban movement, semiotics and contextual study.

Throughout the piece the lanterns predominantly move to the right, representing the East, hope and the new day. Released on the Winter Solstice 2020, the longest night and the Great Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter. The night is dark, but we share our light with you.
