Our first concert was in the form of a sell-out opera extravaganza at Newcastle Castle.
The castle was decorated from head to toe with an exhibition of the props, costume and scenery from our first Opera performance, Personnalites which took place in North Shields earlier in the year.
David Gibson also provided some of his expertly constructed costumes from Macbeth in a nod to the history of the builing.
In the great hall, seagulls circled the ceiling elevated to lofty hights by clouds of white balloons.
Our budding community of new opera artists took to the stage with renditions of well loved opera favourites, and a few artsong thrown in for variety. We were enthralled by renditions of songs such as Di provenza il mar il suol, Madamina il catalogo e questo, and The Enchantress. We were even treated to a beautifully haunting rendition of Vaughan Williams' The Sky Above the Roof sung by four singers making their concert debut.
The whole evening was accompanied with sensitivity and artful playing by Annie Ball.
