Robert Hardiment is an emerging professional operatic Baritone, teacher of singing and conductor. Robert has performed with Newcastle Sinfonietta, Newcastle University Symphony Orchestra, The English Philharmonic and in Monteverdi's centenary celebrations with His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornetts. Recent roles include: Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflote (Aria Alba, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2015); il Conte in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (VoiceArc 2015); and Guglielmo in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte (VoiceArc 2015). Robert also debuted the roles of Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos (Richard Strauss), and Don Giovanni in Mozart's opera of that name in 2017.
Trained in the Anglican choral tradition in Norfolk, Robert formerly held a choral scholarship at St Peter Mancroft, Norwich and was a layclerk at St Nicholas Cathedral Newcastle from 2009-2013. During this time Robert completed a bachelor's degree in Music and performed at Newcastle University, the Sage Gateshead, Alnwick Garden and Cathedrals across the country.
Since graduating in 2012, Robert has been undertaking a broad and intensive study of singing and opera under the guidance of Dr. Nell Drew, specialising in the works of Mozart. From 2012-2014 Robert was the Musical Director of Newcastle University Student Orchestra and Choir.. However, in 2014 Robert gave this up to become the full time conductor for Aria Alba - Opera for all in Edinburgh. Since 2016 Robert has also been the director of Opera D'Argento at Sage Gateshead, which is an unauditioned opera chorus open to over 50's. In 2017 Robert also took on the role of Artistic Director for Newcastle based A Cappella group 'Indigo'. In 2018 Robert made his directorial debut at Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Aria Alba – Opera for All performing 'Idomeneo' and founded Harlekin Studio Opera.
Robert has a growing number of private students of a broad age range and ability. Specializing in advanced choral and operatic technique his students quickly gain control of their instrument. Over the past few years Robert has guided students through dysphonia and thyroidectomy and aims to inspire attention to detail and mechanical function in the development of singers of outstanding technical ability.
